Dr Ajay Shrinivas
Chartered Structural Engineer - Course Designer

Dr Ajay Shrinivas

With my complementary blend of technical expertise, practical construction knowledge and wide-ranging research experience established over a period of more than 10 years within the field of building structures, I lead teams to solve complex engineering problems and develop structural designs that shape the sustainable growth of our cities.

My technical expertise is centred around a comprehensive grasp of the fundamentals of structural engineering combined with the proficiency to harness the prowess of modern technology, including finite-element analysis (FEA), building information modelling (BIM), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and dynamic 3D soil-structure interactions (SSI).

My practical construction knowledge is acquired from being at the forefront of pioneering ‘design-and-build’ projects that are transforming the UK’s landscape — the Northern Line Extension which encompasses the first growth of London’s tube network in the 21st century; HS2 which forms the UK’s first inter-city high-speed rail network from London to Birmingham; Edgware Central Development which will house up to 4000 residential properties and over 200,000 sq. ft. of commercial units to re-vitalise North London; Clapham Common Southside & Nine Elms which will provide up to 800 new homes and 6000 sq.m of educational space in the heart of South-West London.

My wide-ranging research experience stems from an in-depth three-year investigation into the dynamic effects of wind on high-rise buildings and the methods to harness these airflows with an optimised building geometry and material selection to facilitate the natural, passive cooling of internal spaces. This novel combination of structural engineering and the fluid mechanics of building airflows gave rise to three key research papers, published by the Cambridge University Press to guide current design practice towards the construction and operation of sustainable buildings.
